In 1939, several well-preserved royal tombs from the 20th and 21st centuries BC were discovered in Tanis' main temple enclosure. The silver coffins, golden masks, and gold and silver jewelry recall Tutankhamun's burial but are not quite as voluminous.

With Your Egypt Tours Travel Agency, you can easily plan your Tanis day tours from Cairo to be more secure. If you want to travel alone, you can get to Tanis by using the microbus or east Delta bus from Ulali or Abboud in Cairo to the city of Faqus which is 35 km south of Tanais. From Faqus, use the service taxi or the bus to get to San Al Hagar village.

Tanis is an ideal location for those with an archaeological interest, as it offers a variety of archaeological sites to visit, such as the Amun Temple and the Ramses II Great Temple. Additionally, visitors can view some of the remains of the pharaonic city of Piedmont (Pi-Ramesses), constructed by the same Pharaoh.

Absolutely mind blowing. A definite must see. We flew from Aswan after I contact them, as I did not want to sit in car for hours with my 10-year-old daughter. Just so much history and ancient love. You cannot miss this one thing if you are in Cairo. The rocks are just HUGE, so special.
