We recommend you go to Luxor because Luxor has a lot of important ancient Egyptian sites that need a lot of walking around and visiting its temples while Aswan is seen as a place of rest next to its temples.
Aswan offers a wide variety of attractions for visitors to discover and is an ideal base for a one-day tour of the city of Abu Simbel.
The architecture of the High Dam is not only visually attractive nor is it of historical interest. It is hardly a must-see tourist attraction in Aswan.
