Tour Itinerary

Medium Pyramid is located 85 km (52 miles) south of Giza. Although the Pyramid is a unique site and a worthwhile visit, unfortunately, similar to the area of Dahshur, it is one of Egypt's forgotten sites and rarely visited. Upon leaving your hotel with your guide, it takes 90 minutes to get to Medium. The Pyramid is called the collapsed because, from a distance, it looks like a vast tower surrounded by a pile of rubble. The Pyramid was 93m high when it was first built.

King Huni (2637–2613 BC), the last king of the 3rd Dynasty, built the Pyramid of Meidum in the style of a step pyramid. When it was newly constructed, it featured eight steps, one built right on top of the other. The steps were later filled in, and an outer casing was added to form the first try of a true pyramid.

It seems that King Huni had left his Pyramid unfinished, and his successor, King Snefru, finished the excellent task for him. Therefore later generations thought it was the work of Snefru. Sneferu's architects built the more successful Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid at Dahshur. This will be your next stop after covering the whole area of Meidum.

The next stop will be at Dahshour; this archeological site is five miles away from Sakkara. There are three pyramids in this untrodden place: the Bent Pyramid and the North or Red pyramid. Both belong to the pharaoh Snefru, the founder of the 4th Dynasty, while the third Pyramid belongs to his wife, Queen Hotep Heres.

In this place, you will visit the bent Pyramid, the first attempt to develop the Step pyramids' shape. This Pyramid looks fascinating with its two-level form and beautiful soft casing layer. Move around this Pyramid and look at the queen's small Pyramid.

Then, stop at the Red or North pyramid. This one is the first accurate and complete Pyramid in ancient Egypt. You will be told about the development of the royal tomb structure in the Old Kingdom. You can enter the chamber of this Pyramid, which is quite an experience to go through the narrow tunnel to the chamber.

At the end of the tour, drive back to your hotel. Book now and enjoy our Egypt day trips

Absolutely mind blowing. A definite must see. We flew from Aswan after I contact them, as I did not want to sit in car for hours with my 10-year-old daughter. Just so much history and ancient love. You cannot miss this one thing if you are in Cairo. The rocks are just HUGE, so special.
