Travel through time as you journey to the Valley of the Kings. These fascinating tombs were carved deep into a mountain and have eluded archeologists for decades. You will have the opportunity to enter these tombs and examine the detailed art and relief carvings that decorate the interior walls. Here you will also be able to explore the tomb of King Tutankhamun (at an additional cost), however your personal guide will not be permitted to enter with you. Continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut, after concluding a memorable visit to the resting place of the Egyptian kings.
Continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most striking monuments in Egypt. Your personal Egyptologist guide will familiarize you with the temple's history. Learn about the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the female ruler who posed as a male to claim the throne. During your free time, you will be able to explore the courtyards and admire the intricate hieroglyphics that decorate the walls.
As you return from the Temple of Hatshepsut, you will make a stop at the Colossi of Memnon, marking the site of the funerary temple of Amenhotep III. The fascinating statues were carved and hewn out of a single block and remain standing proudly to this day. Additionally, you have the option to visit an alabaster factory and purchase genuine items if you wish.
Later in the afternoon, your guide will take you on a private tour across the East Bank of Luxor to see two of the most impressive temples in Upper Egypt: the Temple of Karnak and Luxor. Begin your tour of the East Bank by visiting the Karnak Temple complex. Walk along the Avenue of the Sphinx which once connected the two temples. Along each side of the path are dozens of statues of sphinxes which have been carved with incredible detail. Upon entering the Temple of Karnak, you will see the legacy of the pharaohs and their additions to the complex over the years. The deeper you go into the complex, the further back in time you will travel. The oldest ruins in the complex date as far as 3,000 years back, demonstrating the difference of art and architectural styles over Egypt’s long history. Walk through the Great Hypostyle Hall and marvel at the 134 sandstone columns that dominate the main hall. At the rear of the complex, you will find the sacred lake where pharaohs and their offerings to the gods were purified.
Continue your journey to the Temple of Luxor, which was once connected to the Temple of Karnak by the Avenue of the Sphinxes. This remarkable temple has survived Nile floods, foreign invasion, and thousands of years of exposure to the elements. Two grand statues of Ramses II stand at the temple's entrance. The inner walls and columns are decorated with detailed and intricate hieroglyphics which your personal guide will help decipher. Here you will learn about Alexander the Great’s influence, and how he wrote himself into the temple's history.
Upon completion of your tour, return to Luxor International Airport and board your return flight, concluding a memorable day tour across Luxor’s finest attractions.
